Spent a couple of years just outside a long time ago. Recognise all the villages mentioned, and their Inns. There is a ring community round it that just pretends it doesn't exist, seemed to work for them. Used to travel to Winchester a lot, I can't even remember what Basingstoke center looked like now.
Tell me about Basingstoke ... or thereabouts?
NorthWest Hampshire is wonderful, ok the towns, which soaked up the London overspill (Andover, Basingstoke etc) and were changed massively for the worse, they are vibrant economically. So facilities are improving and money is being spent. Basingstoke does not have a lot of soul, but the countryside around it is lovely and it has incredible communications by road and rail and you are starting to get closer to a proper rural life.
I was born in Basingstoke and spent 18 years there. Believe me, it is an oasis now in comparison to the concrete desert that I grew up in. Having travelled a bit, including living in Stevenage for a few years - Basingstoke ain't that bad!
If the job pays OK you won't be short of great rural options for housing - Rotherwick, Hartney Witney etc
Thanks for all the replies I lived in, well just outside of, Slough for a few years, at the time it was the only place I could afford, I never ventured into the town centre but just had it as somewhere to sleep so I'm guessing basingstoke would be on par with that. The job is in Basingstoke, it's not great pay but it's more than I get now and I'm doing agency work so it could end tomorrow, but there's very little in the way of work in my area at the moment, haven't found anything that's relevant to my skills and interests for a couple of years. So, the idea was to move somewhere near and drive/cycle to work. But looking at prices of housing it's a little bit more than where I am now, so I'm in two minds. We're also considering moving further afield, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, depends on finding work but houseing costs seem to be better in those areas. So, need to weigh up the pros and cons, if i get an interview I'll go and have a look around and then think about it.
