  • Technique for tight switchbacks with a sizeable drop/step near apex?

Hi, what technique do you apply when faced with a tight switchback with a drop at, or just before or after, the apex of the turn? I already apply the general moves for switchbacks – e.g., go in wide, eyes up and commit, weight back, outside pedal forward, dab where necessary – but I can’t cope where the switchback is tight enough to be difficult even if it were flat, and there’s a step halfway round just to add to it. I’m thinking of the switchbacks at the top of Druid’s Grove on Norbury in particular. I use SPDs. Do you roll the drop and risk faceplanting, or do you jump it and risk picking up too much speed to make the turn? I think part of the solution must be to get your weight way, way back. Or am I overthinking it – sometimes the answer is just to hoon it down and ask questions later, is that the case here?
