    Morning all,

Got a bit of a fankenbike cx build going on and wanted to clarify a few things please…

    Q1)

Are mtb and road cassettes spaced differently or are they interchangeable for the same speed

E.g could you in theory put a 9 speed mtb cassette on a 9 speed road bike and vice versa if the mech cage is long enough?

    Same with 10speed and 11?

Q2) in theory could you run am xt front mech with a 2 speed road lever?

Q3) what’s the deal with cable pull on rear mechs.. Assuming all shimano kit, can road and mtb be mixed for the same speeds e.g 9 with 9 10 with 10 etc etc?

Any clear advice on these 3 questions may save much faffing.

    Thanks in advance

    1) Yes, you can mix and match.
    2) You may be able to get it working but could possibly be a pita
    3) 9 and 9 yes. 10 and 10 no. You can use a 9spd MTB mech with 10 speed road though. 11 and 11 no. Jtek (and maybe others) do offer solutions to make them work though.

I know for sure that you can use Shimano Ultegra with mtb cassette. Wiggins did this on mountain stages to get the cadence. The Ultegra has a longer cage. So it’s possible, but i would imagine a pain to fit.
