Does anyone rememeber that rider that stopped to punch a spectator in the face who was obstructing him on one of the big mountain climbs?

Nope – but I remember Eddy Merckx got punched in the stomach in '75.

Did he even finish the Tour!? There were no mentions of him made at all on the last few days!

Who was the rider who once ended up riding with an inner tube tied to his stem which he held in his teeth on the climbs, because he'd broken his collarbone so couldn't pull on the bars?

No votes for Gesink in this years tour? Riding with a broken wrist and giving it everything to try & get back onto the peloton only to implode & drag it home 20 minutes afterwards….

There is slightly more to it than that, Contador has been royally dicked about by the team he expected to support him, even getting left behind at the TT. Plus, LA is not noted for his public relations skills.

Armstrong got beaten, that's the bottom line, and he doesn't do second places, never mind third….

Incidentally, all that 'no i in team' sh1t? Look up the spanish for team; there's an i in 'equipo'…and an ass in Texas…

Francesco Moser was my hard man hero of the seventies, damn good pedigree in the classics and Grand Tours as well as the Hour.

    Bernard Hinault.
