Hi, my wife is due a tax rebate from her previous job as a teacher, we emigrated in Decemeber 2007 to New Zealand. She has phoned the tax office in Barnstaple and written to them 3 times. They insist that she was working 2 jobs (which she wasn't) her second job being some 'company' called 'Britas'??? this is the only information they will give her.

They do not reply to letters or emails, can anyone advise what we should do next, is there an ambudsman or similar we should contact, it just seems that they are trying to shaft us, grrrrrrrrr.

If you want to complain then this should point you in the right direction. You might get more joy if someone senior reviews the case.

Don't give up it's your tax that has been overpaid so you are entitled to have it back. Ask them to prove that Mrs A was working 2 x jobs rather than just the 1, it could be that someone has used her name instead of their own or a computer error.
