Just booked a weekend break in Tallinn. Any informed observations on places to see, bars, restaurants etc would be most gratefully received.

Depends on what you are interested in and what time of year – however….

    history
New Seaplane museum – excellent fun for all ages – really interesting…
Open Air museum (bus from centre of town) – lots of different buildings from Estonian history all in one place
If you have any interest in british navy or military – there is some commemorative plaques in a church just to the north of the town square – remembering how Britain helped out the estonians in WW2.

    food
Great Pizza place here – Pizza Grande (cheap and cheeful)
touristy, expensive but quite nice restaurants (medieval style) to be found near the town hall in the centre

Raekoja Platz (Town hall square) is the centre of the town – very touristy and lots of restaurants
Unusually, you can walk very close to the parliament buildings and presidents palace, however not the most interesting to look at unless you are in to architecture…

Saint Olafs church is good for views – for a couple of euros you can climb to the top of the tower (except for the spike) and view all of tallinn – used to be the tallest building in europe (some time ago)

Married to an estonian so have been to tallinn (or through it) about 15 times in last 5 years….
