  • Taking better photographs – any classic or otherwise decent books?

I’d like to improve the quality of the photos I take. I do a bit of everything from landscapes to action shots. I understand the basic physics, but I need inspiration re composition, lighting etc.
Any books / blogs / websites / tutorials worth a look?

Learning to See Creatively is a pretty good book, worth a read. The author’s exposure book is a bit of a classic, too.

This one is more biased towards film photography but is an excellent guide to the underlying principles and techniques.

Don’t let the title put you off I found it far from basic.

I’ve been reading The Photographer’s Eye by Michael Freeman

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Photographers-Eye-Composition-Design-Digital/dp/1905814046/

It focuses on composition and understanding the effect of patterns, shapes, colours etc. I found it pretty interesting as I get the technical aspect of photography but struggle to compose interesting shots.

    Edit: review here

Thanks guys. I’ve ordered the Learning to See Clearly and added the Photographers Eye to my wish list 🙂
