Taking a non-riding partner on riding holiday (Joyriders, Basque MTB etc)

Hi all, was talking to the wife over the weekend about summer holidays. We're normally city-break people but last year we did our first summer holiday (in 8 years) in Mallorca and loved it. I mentioned I wouldn't mind going to the Alps as we've got a mate there who has jacked in the rat race and now lives/guides there. Surprisingly she said she'd be up for say a 5 day break where I could ride maybe 3 days and 2 days we could do a bit of sightseeing/eating/drinking/shopping etc. Also at night would be good if there was a town close by for meals, drinks etc.

I happened to look at the Joyriders site which looked pretty good. Just wondering if anyone else has done something like this........is there enough to keep the wife happy for three days?

Joyriders are in a wonderful spot, but if she wants to get into a town then she'll need transport. there's really not much in the village at all. they do have a pool and a hot tub though, so if she's happy to laze around during the day, and really wants to switch off and unwind it might be just the job.

BasqueMtb are based next to the lovely town of Hondarribia which has nice bars and restaurants, a nice old town and good beaches. Just down the road is San Sebastian where there's plenty of sightseeing to be done, spas, shopping, beaches, eating, everything you'd expect from a city. Easily reachable by bus or train, you can also pop over the border into France. During the summer there's Fiestas going on everywhere, you wont struggle to find anything to do. And the riding is top notch too.

As much as I loved Joyriders unless she likes reading by the pool and drinking free booze all day there ain't a lot to do. You can get lifts to Cordoba and some of the other places but I suspect it could be a bit dull. I was climbing the walls by the end of the rest day!

Hi all, just to confirm Shackleton's comment on visits etc. Yes, there is the option of going to Cordoba (a must see city), Granada or Sevilla for day trips. Also she could get a lift to marked walking routes near Zuheros, if that's her thing.

Within the village itself there is also horse riding available from the hotel.

Chilling out by the pool or in the hot tub is also a favourite option! We do cater for a lot of non riding guests so have all aspects covered.

yoshimi, I just saw this. Give me a shout if you're interested in more details. We're within 20mins of San Sebastian, which is one of the coolest cities around. Biarritz and Bilbao are also close by so you can guggenheim etc. We do quite a bit of this and can point OH's in the direction of some walking trails.

If we're throwing suggestions into the hat, I know it's not the alps, but how about a spot of Canaries Summer Sunshine?
Nice quiet trails and plenty of handy shops and beach for the Missus.

Flow mtb sounds like it would suit.

Both places in Morzine are actually in Morzine itself and the staff etc are extremely helpful.

Plenty of non bikey stuff to do for your other half too.

Just back from a visit to Basque MTB. The cities in the area are brilliant for eating, mooching about and shopping. Hondarribia is a lovely small town with plenty of great bars and restaurants. San Sebastian is a very cool city indeed and Bilbao combines good food with culture.
