Switchback owners, what is the widest rear tyre that can be fitted without rubbing?

I have a spare rock razor 2.35 but doubt this would fit. (hope tech enduro rims)

    What you running?

    thanks

It seems to vary – I ran a 2.2 Trail King on my steel one and there wasn’t that much room (on DT M1700 wheels) but there do seem to be a few getting away with Hans Dampfs and Rock Razors.

If you have the tyre, why not fit it and see if it fits?

I’m using a 2.35″ bontrager xr3 team issue on the rear of my steel switchback, still got plenty of clearance even though it looks huge.

I got a 2.35 rock razor into my slackline, and there wasn’t much room to spare but it never caused any problems.

A mate of mine has 2.4 nobby nics on tech enduros in his, apparently OK given how much he’s raving about the bike!

So here is the rock razor 2.35 in a switchback.

I have about 4mm clearance each side, is this enough before i test ride tomorrow or should i bung the ardent back on for now? and buy something narrower

That looks pretty snug – guessing you may get a bit of rub as the wheel / frame flex in corners etc.
