Can I buy the vignette at the border? What’s the process for the purchase and showing passport etc (how long does it take)? Going into Geneva tomorrow for the day and can’t ignore the motorways.
    Cheers

Just buy at gas stations before the border , or at the border …

    It’s just gone up apparently

Some rude border official will slap one on the inside of your windscreen, demand the fee and fling the wrapper into your car when you reach the border, ime.

There is a back door route into geneva which is often unmanned, we got away with it going to and fro 4 times last july. Take the turning past the saleve cable car instead of the first one (if coming from the north), its this big junction here 46.182668,6.223944

If you’re just going into Geneva from France you’ll easily be able to avoid any motorways and save yourself 40 francs

Buy at the border. Stick cling film over it to hold on windscreen to use on another car or pass to a mate. A Swiss policeman told me to do that last time I was there!

Got stung for one on Sunday, made us stick it to the windscreen as well so couldn’t use on another vehicle, went through Switzerland to avoid the tolls and was whacked for €40 instead.

Toys19 is right. Go the St Julien way and you won’t need the vignette.

Presumably you got lucky, you could have got a big fine. They’re 40 swiss francs (£29), someone said they’d gone up to 150 on a previous thread, but I think they were confused, still £29 on the Swiss travel websites.

    40 francs

    €40

Had €37 ready in my hand last time but was brusquely requested to give them €40 then they thrust a handful of aluminium shrapnel in my hand and a sticker on my windscreen. They following 30 miles of road included 10 miles of tailbacks due to a tunnel being randomlly closed down to 1 lane then 10 miles of 50kmph roadworks.

Our transfer driver the other week said it’s going up to 150chf, but I’m not going back to check.

My method has always been to keep riding until stopped and escorted off to buy one by the police. I didn’t realise I could have copped a fine, guess my good looks and charm have allowed me to get away with it 🙂
