Space for bikes and lots of storage under the platform.

[]was going to put a picture in here, but facebook wont let me anymore[]

Gone with a long bench, running front to back,

Bench/Bed slides out to double width, bikes stand next to it. Admittedly you cant sleep two people without locking the bikes to the towwing eye outside, but with some tactically placed bungees you can wheel a bike in whole and shackle it to the floor upright without it damaging anything or itself. Also, the bed box lifts is held in placed by bolts that drop into the floor to stop it sliding. It lifts out as one piece, leaving me with a normal van.

Saw one recently with a sliding van vault under the bed – seemed a brilliant investment for going touring and leaving all your valuables in a car park in the middle of nowhere.

Thanks Paddy, looks good. I like mark90’s arrangement with those moveable folding seats. We’ve had to accommodate a small boat but it’s likely to be grown out of soon so there’s more scope for altering the inside of the van.

I’m suprised more van’s don’t have roof tents.

Seems like what you really want is a kitchen/seating/storage in the van, and a double bed on the roof.

Swivel base under the double passenger seat, 1 row of folding seats in the back, a stowable table between them, kitchen/storage units down one side, and a big space in the back for bikes. Either that or find a way of fitting a back to front rock’n’roll seat where the passenger seat goes.

^ That’s what i do with my California. Shove the bench forwards, two bikes in the back with one wheel off, sleep upstairs, cook downstairs once you lob the bikes out. Or bang them on the rack and be done with it.

Finally got round to posting some pictures of my Transit Conversion. Had this since 2010. Great van for two of us and the dog but got a little one now so gong to get something bigger. This works for weekends away and races. Bikes fit inside so all safe and secure at night. SWB Transit. Will take up to three bikes in the back.
