there is a facebook page called "Support the Epic Blast" i would really appreciate it if people clicked "like" . for those that dont know the epic blast is an irish mega-avalanche sort of race which is now being outlawed by the authorities. in 2010 singletrack ran an article about top 5 events every mtber should do before they die, in which the blast came 4th. you can check out vids on youtube under "Epic Blast" or "Red Bull Foxhunt". liking this on facebook will cost you nothing but will mean a whole lot to us and it will earn you mtb karma credit - thanks

Why is it being outlawed?

there seems to be a creeping movement towards banning mtbing in the area, having rob seymour, dan + gee atherton etc take part and a helicopter camera crew brought a bit more attention than usual. have a look at http://www.epicmtb.com where you can find the whole story.

Was more to do with the event being run on conservation land, I thought.

most of the event was run in a trail centre forest , the first 200 mtres was on land which was allways commonage ,ie farmers grazed sheep there and the heather was regularly burnt and people walked and mtbed there.someone somewhere at some stage decided it was a consevation area which didnt affect anything except mtbing. legal and political issues would not be my area i am a builder of bridges and berms,i can get a more politically informed post added here .

Make it easier for people to find the facebook page, there's no obvious link from the web site (you need a big f'off banner or a like button on the site), plus the facebook page is rather vague about what it actually is about.
