Yes, it just replaces a spacer.
I found it a struggle to stop it rubbing at one extreme of the gear range or the other. In the end I set it up so that it doesn’t rub in the big sprocket, cos I’ll be going more slowly when using the big sprocket so more likely to hear any rubbing.
I found I had to make a custom plastic spacer out of a milk bottle to go between the guide mounting plate and the guide, to space it correctly – the circular bb spacers supplied (thin slivers) can only be used to space the chainset outwards in relation to the guide mount plate (i.e. spacers between guide mount plate and the BB cup. Trying to space the other way (spacers on the shell side of the guide mount plate and it moves both the guide and the chainset out together.
If that makes any sense whatsoever.
Adjusting the height was also a bit trial and error so that it keeps the chain on but doesn’t rub on the chainset arms. And also when the chain is running on the small sprockets, as the angle of the chain changes vertically as well as across the sprockets.
