Ok, get your tea, biscuits and slippers….

Anyone else use the SS rear hub which seems to need an enormous spanner – which I do not have..

Should I be using a particular tool which I neglected to buy or just seek to borrow a big shifter?

Would have been handy to know tool requirement when purchasing….and no not the stone!

it’s ok – the stone is for BB’s.

you need a railway sleeper for the hubs.

pjt201….you know from experience that is what I need?

It does not look like the lock ring on a screw on jobbie.

does the big spanner that comes in most basic bike kits not fit?

    Got a pic?

had the same problem building up my ss a couple of months ago

i went out and bought a bigger spanner… and because i’m *really* clever, it still wasn’t big enough…

think in the end i wedged something against the two flat sides and managed to undo it, needed three hands really though. there’s probably a better way… like the right tool

either measure across the flats and go get a big enough spanner/adjustable or put the flats in a vice & turn the hub via the chain whip, which you still need to use in either case as per a normal cassette hub.

    My ‘C’ spanner didn’t fit.

I just used a smooth jaw adjustable wrench, I did add an adjustable spanner to my trail tools for a few rides too.
