The aim is to replace the 12t on my 9 speed deore cassette with 11t thereby making an 11-36 cassette.

cheekybump. it’s only 4 quid I guess so not the end of the world if it doesn’t. undoing the lock ring will be more hassle!

Will it still shift properly then if you swap 12 for 11t?

Also worth mentioning that you’ll need an 11t compatible lockring, a 12t usually fouls the chain as it’s a bigger diameter.

I did the switch tonight to put an 11t on the road bike using an old mtb cassette. Worked fine but I needed to use the donor lockring and the 13T since the design was slightly different, so my advice would be to find a donor cassette instead of buying the 11T on its own.
