It should never have stood, the rules are clear.

Having said that, as a Liverpool supporter they deserved to be beaten and the scoreline was maybe even flattering to Liverpool. However the goal that won the game should not have been allowed.

I watched the extended highlights on Sky Sport. The ball was on the pitch before kick off and, for the opening few minutes, it was sitting in the back of Reina's goal – presumably put there to keep it out of the way. The pillock should have stamped on it or given it to a steward.
