Kids are 10 and 7, 7 year old will be on the back of a tandem, prefer to use hostels, or pods to avoid having to trial too much stuff around.

Fort William to Inverness? Follow the Great Glen Way/NCN78 from FW to Fort Augustus then take NCN78 (with one significant hill) to Inverness. I’d suggest that the GGW north of Fort Augustus isn’t really suitable for your group. NCN78 is on some quieter roads.

Transport of your group and bikes back to FW can be arranged through http://www.tickettoridehighlands.co.uk/cyclist-transport.php if you should end up with a vehicle there. A bag moving service is also available.

You could extend it by starting in Oban instead.
