Toying with the idea of one for winter night duties and nipping across town. Ideally available from normal LBS as I'll be cyclescheming it.

I have a 22" Kona Hoss singlespeeded. I quite like it despite the fact it'll probably soon get changed over to a 29er instead.

I'd get a full geared bike then spend a bit of cash converting it (you can sell the geared bits to pay for the tensioner etc). I also have a Specialized Rockhopper 29er which has a fancy geared/sliding dropout.

If you are after a singlespeed specific frame then i have no idea! But from experience, it's way cheaper to buy a full bike and swap it around a bit than buy all the bits from scratch. Plenty of hardtails available for under the £1000 cycle scheme limit. Choice is endless.

Genesis IO? £599 or was last year. I had one (got stolen) & liked it very much. Was used for night riding & commuting.
