  • Suggest me a bike ride for little legs, manchester – north west area
  • Just after a few ideas for taking the family out for a few rides. Mum and 7 year old ok for an hours riding. 3year old is now peddling on her own and wants to go everywhere on her bike. So after a few fairly flat routes ideas, thinking parks or estates or promenades etc. thanks in advance.

Phillips Park in Prestwich is nice for pootle.

Hollingworth Lake is nice and flat, café half way round, kids playground, lovely place.

Queens Park in Heywood is a little gem.
Nice café, BMX Track so you can show off to your kids, little bouldering bit, lake etc.

Heaton Park’s a bit hilly, Sale Water Park is full of dogshit but Clayton Vale near the Velodrome might be a goer.

Towneley Park in Burnley is great – lots of flat trails and paths, big playground, great caff, big house to look round if it chucks it down.
Thompson Park just down the road is dog free and has a miniature railway and a paddling pool in the summer.

A lovely day out (maybe for next summer) is catch the Mersey Ferry over to Seacombe, then ride the traffic-free promenade to New Brighton (beach, cafe, ice-cream).

Another nice prom is Morecambe, with playgrounds, a squirty fountain to ride through, and various artworks,

Have you got the cycle GM maps they are free. Not north but the penine way by Lymm is flat and traffic free.

Rivington, ride to the castle, throw stones in the lake, all a three year old would ever want

Further north you’ve got the proms in places like Southport and Fleetwood or Blackpool if you want your kids educated in the ways of human dross.

Inland, Dunsop Bridge with the lovely flat traffic free road that goes up to the salmon ladder at Whitendale, then back down for home baked cakes at Puddleducks cafe.

White coppice to Brinscall is fairly muddy at the moment so I would cross it off the list
