BTW, it might be as well to create a new thread for planning the next ride :o)

I have sworn never to take a bike up Nan Bield again! Although it's beautiful, I seriously considered feigning injury (or self harming) so someone else would have to carry me out. It is ghastly
Says the man who has just carried up Dollywagon.
I am not that fit, and have a heavy-ish bike, but I reckon I would be up for the 3 passes thing, as long as we had plenty of time.
I've not climbed over Winder before but i have done the climb (push) from Birkhaws to Bram Rigg Top - and while it was pretty brutal, it didn't kill me.

I shan't be doing THAT again either

The Calf is quite different - you can ride a fair bit and push the rest without any need for carrying

trying carrying a bike and 21stone of muscle up nan bieldfrom what I recall Nan Bield (300m) was worse than Dollywaggon (275m). I've carried up Dollywaggon 4 times now and realised that I don't want to do that again either - it's much better going up from Dockray across Matterdale. I have nothing to prove, and I'd rather have fun :o)

I will try and make it, there is nothing on the calendar but that doesn't mean the car isn't already in use.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Where are you Amy? sure someone could sort out a lift for you.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Enough going from round here for you to get a lift. Congrats to Ali on marathon
EDIT:Lowey lives wrong side of the hill like you!!Posted 3 years ago # -
Given your riding ability Amy, I'm sure you could probably ride up there, grind us all into the ground and ride home

Trio, if the cars in use give me a shout, I'm supposed to be driving up with my mate but if he can't make it I'll have room (he might not know for sure for a couple of weeks tho).
Posted 3 years ago # -
Might have to come along on this if I haven't got a job yet, if only for the inevitable bust-ups between sfb and the rest of the world

it's not usually like that. I do a lot of shouting and bossing around and everyone lets me :o)

If you need a lift from Bolton, I can pick you up on the way- I'm in Accrington..
Drop me a line...

If you come Simon
I shall, provided I can get a lift from Lancaster, as we haven't even scheduled a ride for that day yet. I might persuade a few more Bog Trotters too.
Do you take this also or This one?
yes, I always go through the rusted gate :o)

Surely it's a 'chain' of MTB'ers

thanks Danny & Johnny, I'll be in touch closer to the day

I like 'throng' but perhaps 'pong' would be more accurate ?

Surely correct training for ssuk would involve getting tanked up the night before?Posted 3 years ago # -
I may well be able to make this. Will be bringing my stepdad, who is reasonably fit and has volunteered to ride the SS
How long will it take to drive to the start point from Glenridding?Been looking forward to riding up north for ages, this sounds ideal. I'll be bringing cake to appease the northern hoardes... Riding skills likely to remain rooted firmly in the south
Posted 3 years ago # -
Might be able to come - checking the diary as I type (well, will be in mo!)
Posted 3 years ago # -
Count me in. It's about time I did a STW ride. Especially seeing as I've never ridden around there anyway.
I'll try and persuade a friend along as well.

I'd allow about an hour - quicker to go north and join the M6 at Penrith I think.
