I have a meeting in Cincinnati next wednesday and I’m then free until thursday lunchtime when I need to be in Detroit (4 hour drive). Where would you stay wednesday night for food and a beer which isn’t a Holiday Inn / strip mall / etc? It can be anywhere between Cincinnati and Detroit but I’m thinking a small town an hour or so north might be the most interesting, whatcha got?

    cheers

My golden rule of business travelling is to always try and stay at the place I want to be the next day, but based on your trip, probably none of the places nor in-between…

But if I had to, I’d probably go for somewhere on Lake Erie.

I stayed in Hamilton and a customer took me out to a seedy strip club.. It was the best strip club ever! 😯 I can’t remember much about Hamilton except for tits and fanny, but they were a really friendly bunch in Hamilton.

If you went that direction you hit Niargra falls, worth stopping to check it out, but it is a longer way round.

Do you like roller coasters? https://www.cedarpoint.com/

Ann Arbor is a Universtity town and might be a good bet for an evening.

This thread reminds me of my huge disappointment when I found out a strip mall isn’t what it sounds like…

Stay in Cinti … eat out in Mt Adams area, or go down the The Carousel on the Levy, or the Precinct, or any other Jack Ruby restaurant ….
Or just go down to the river and est Skyline Chili ( which I haveo say is rubbish). There is a nice sports bar not far from the Reds stadium – however buggered if I can remember what it is called!

I couldn’t resist taking a look at the map. I reckon Hicksville is the place to be.

Cedar point is a good shout but still a 3hrs drive to Detroit.

I’d probably also suggest ending up in Ann Arbor which is a cool place. Plymouth is also a nice little small town near Detroit. Eat at Fiamme and stay at the Inn of St John. There isn’t much in the way of sightseeing in OH or MI unless you go to the MI peninsula which is well out of your way.

The other thing to do for some decent people watching is to end up in Detroit and stay at the Greektown casino. It’s a surprisingly good hotel.

You might get a Tigers game in Detroit too if you like baseball

Skyline Chili in Louisville was pretty good (in the late 90s, granted!).
No real help to you OP, but i saw a few gigs in a launderette/music venue in Cincy ages ago called Sudsy Malone’s, and it was a great little place.

Ohio is chock full of dirty places too. Dayton has more than its fair share of filth…

Thanks for the suggestions, I should have said I’ll be in Ann Arbor earlier in the week so I already have that area covered, I just have one day down in Cincinnati and then need to go back to Detroit. Sounds like Dayton might be best avoided and a night in the middle of Cincinnati is the way forward as suggested by mrmoofo.

I also get curious by names like Hicksville, but I also find towns sometimes live up to their names so this might not be wise!

ok, looking at Findlay Ohio as a place to stop off, seems ok, I’ll let you all know how it goes.
