that’s all I can think of, sorry

there’s an airport out at what used to be RAF Finningley. Does the Vulcan bomber visit there at all? Used to be based there when it carried nukes

The model railway that used to be at York Station is now in sunny Donny and is well good.

When I was a lad there was Biscuit Billy’s and the Time and Place. Oh and a Top Rank.

I went to Donny on a stag do, and remember being pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t as big a crap hole as I’d imagined it to be.

There is a fantastic shoe shop in Doncaster that specialises in handmade British footwear……..do you like the smell of fine leather?

For food in the town centre, Woods Tea Rooms, on Wood Street is very good in an old fashioned sort of way, like a more homely Betty’s. Zest(High St) and Relish(St Sepulchre Gate) do decent lunches and are staples for office lunch crowd. Nice Italian cafe in among the indoor butchers at the market too. Whitby’s, next to the racecourse for a sit down chippy.

For distractions, the market is worth a look for good meat, veg and fish shopping, but not much quality besides. Brodsworth Hall(Eng Heritage), 4 miles north of town, is good, I wouldn’t bother with the town museum, Cusworth Hall or Conisborough castle. The Vulcan is based at Finningley and they do open days. Yorkshire Wildlife Park is getting well established now and is well spoken of, I haven’t been in since it first opened and it was a bit sparse on exhibits then.

sometimes other stuff on at the racecourse so worth checking there. Don’t know where to eat / drink.

…almost forgot…you can go find the streets where they filmed ‘Open All Hours’ but that’s about all I can think of

Off the top of my head…

There’s Yorkshire Wildlife Park a short drive from The Dome, if you like lions and tigers and lemurs and that; there’s Doncaster Aeroventure a short walk from The Dome if you like planes, helicopters and bits thereof; there’s Potteric Carr nature reserve another short walk from The Dome if you like birds and nature, and there’s Conisbrough Castle a few miles down the road from The Dome if you like castles.

    Does alright does Donny.

I saw the Vulcan in flight from the polar bear enclosure a few weeks ago. The bear is called Victor, amusingly. My missus didn’t get the link.

Yeah, the wildlife park is really good – as natural habitats as you could hope for in captivity.

And The Dome do a ice skate / swim combo that is quite cheap – the activity pool/slides are fun 🙂
