   I have an old Maverick speedball, which i love using and has been around a while. The only problem i ever had with it, was the clamp mechanism was pants, and would slip regularly.

   Well, the other day at Brechfa it finally exploded beyond repair. So, i need a new post, and want to find out the collectives epinions about which post has a strong clamp. I tend to come down hard on the saddle quite a bit.

   I dont want/need a remote, but do want a 4" drop at least. Weight, not an issue, but would like as little maintenance as possible.

   Suggestions?

   IME, a gravity dropper would be your best bet. Wife has one on her Orange Five for similar reasons - i.e. reliable, low maintenance and no remote to go wrong. I was surpised by how light the post was when I fitted it - only thing is the 'industrial' look of thing if that bothers you.

   sounds like you need a decent QR seat clamp and something like a Thomson

   I have had two ks GD Posts, one remote and one lever and currently have a new generation Reverb but would recommend a Gravity dropper for their simplicity and reliability. I had to send my reverb back within two weeks when a seal blew and the ks i had before that imploded completely within two weeks of riding too. The lever operated one lasted over a year until i sold the bike. You very rarely see people complaining about reliability issues with the gravity dropper. Ok they look a bit less sleek than the others but at least they tend to spend more time on the bike being used rather than in the box going for warranty jobs

   So, it seems a Gravity Dropper might be the way to go!

   Am i right in thinking that the button on the front of the post is a up/down release?
   It is a little industrial, but hey-ho... reliable is hard to find, in something that looks slick.

   Thanks for the responses, and now to see if i can find a second hand non-remote 5inch drop in 30.9

   So , i just looked at the KS i900. Hmm.... that looks very simple, with a better level design and seat clamp affair. Any experience of these?

   I would go for the specialized command post as it's going on my SX, but the seat clamp is the same rubbish design as the Maverick speedball i think.

   I've got the Command post, works great ant the seat clamp is as good as any that I've had
