What do you normally ride? The course isn’t very steep. I rode about 52″ for solo.

    Was that solo? 29er?

I’m in as a pair too and will most likely be on the SS as I don’t want to ruin my geared drivetrain.

I’d gear for a long night of climbing. Trailrat sounds about spot on.

I was solo 29er that year

Done it in quads 4 or 5 times on 32:18 on a 29er

I normally run 32:19 (29er in the Lake District), think I might drop down to a 20 or 21t.

Or maybe I’ll just MTFU/walk when needed.

22!! **** didn’t know they came that big? surely will be a nightmare on the flattish bits?
Ok so its an original s/s bike genesis io not a conversion whats the best sprockets to get and where from?

34:19 here I think. Maybe 34:18 on the other bike if I’ve had my weetabix.

Robbie I guess everyone is talking about 29″ bikes. Yours is 26″, though IIRC. I’d suggest go for 32:18 or 32:20. Surly chainring and sprockets would get my vote.

    What flat bits….

Its either uphill fire road or technical doown hill

Ive never found my self wanting for more downhill speed.

Only pedally bit I can think of is up by the tarn. Even then it soon starts heading downwards.

I’m swaying towards leaving it as is now, might take a larger sprocket just in case.

Whatever you normally use I suggest another 2 teeth on the back.

That’s if we get decent weather this year instead of the shite semi-tropical weather of the last few years. 🙂
