Watched someone at the Porsche garage opposite where I worked reverse a brand new, still in the white plastic, Cayman off a transporter and straight up onto the bonnets of two brand new 911’s that had also just been unloaded. The two Porsches then shot back and hit a further two customer cars parked behind them.

She was led off in tears by other staff.

My first job was selling BMW cars for a main dealer in Staffordshire. It had been a very snowy and icy winter and despite the roads having been clear for several days, the workshop carpark was still a cobbled icy skidpan. I’d been to put petrol in one of the demonstrators and came sailing into the carpark way too fast, skittling my way down a line of customers’ cars, coming to rest embedded in the boss’s 6 series. Not my finest moment.

    Remembered another one.

I was about 14 at the time and mum had a 1986 Escort Estate. We went to the local tip, unloaded but I hadn’t shut the tailgate fully which then came open, unnoticed till we drove under the Height Restriction.

It went with a hell of a bang and scared **** out of us as we just didn’t expect it. I’d always messed with cars as a teenager so spent the next few evenings straightening it out 🙄

I also reversed my VW California into a different space in my work car park.as i went back I met some resistance , gave it some more on the throttle and a bit of rebar came through my back double glazed window. Painted black sticking out the wall, helpful.

I heard a story from a mate who had a work colleague who had bought a new car.

His girlfriend took it to a DIY store and purchased a tub of emulsion. On lifting the tub in to the boot of the car, the lid came off depositing 5 litres of emulsion all over the inside of the boot.

Panicking, she returned to the store to seek some advice as to how to clear it up. They suggested that the paint needed to be absorbed, and advised soil would be a good thing to use. So they then helpfully assisted her in dumping the entire contents of the bag of soil in to the boot.

So when she got home, and fessed up to her boyfriend, he opened the boot to be met by a boot load of soil, covering a layer of emulsion. Nice!

A few years ago I dropped my first car off at a garage for work to be done on the exhaust pipe, and as I was waiting I saw a garage employee reverse a customer Golf GTI off a ramp without properly lowering it, which caught on the front bumper and ripped the whole thing off.

“Ah, yes, the Golf – no, not quite ready yet sir, just waiting for a part to come in…”

Damaged me not the car when throwing a heavy bag into the boot whilst reaching up to shut the boot door. Slipped and somehow managed to slam the boot door on my head, resulting in trip to hospital to have my head sewn back together.

Alfa 147 slecta-something anyway it had a new for the time semi-auto gearbox – wasn’t her fault but it shifted into reverse, 1st or somewhere in between and the gearbox shat itself, big mess, hole in the thing

Selespeed. You won’t see many of them on the roads these days as they all did that eventually.

Is this quantity of of problems normal?
Need to update it, fuel pump died near Dunkirk, 13 breakdown trucks in a relay to get home! Also got stuck at a time trial, broke the toolbox fixing a loose roofrack, ruined a tyre fixing a handbrake, the usual stuff. Oddest was probably the ants nest which took up residence in it.

In 2012 my Toyota Avenesis sustained £6.5K damage from hailstones! At least that was the original quote, it was a company car and had over 200 dents, damaged trim, door mirror and rear light.
