So, left the house today cycling to my local trails. After a couple of hundred yards I could hear a strange sound. The best way to describe it would be as though you were holding two spokes (that aren't attached to a wheel!) and gently tapping them together.

I stopped, thinking I'd snapped a spoke, and checked both wheels. Both running true and the tension in all the spokes is fine. I checked the brakes for the pads rubbing but nothing there.

It's very intermittent and continued through the ride. Just a "tss tss tss" sound as though someone was touching two long, thin bits of metal together.

    Any thoughts?

I know you checked the brakes, but it sounds like the spring clip thats between the pads.

    Ah.

Avid Juicy Threes with that little spring clip thing and they are in need of a pad change soon. Probably less then 1mm on one of the pads.

Is that the likely source then?
