I’ve got a sore toe. The one next to my big toe.

I don’t think it’s actually my toe though, it seems to be something in the pad of my foot that squishes a nerve when I walk on it. But what’s strange is that it only does it first thing in the morning, or when I’ve had my foot up for a while. First couple of dozen steps are painful, then it’s fine. I can even go for a run and it’s completely painless.

So what can inflate and squish nerves when it’s elevated, but disappear when being used?

I’d guess at a nerve. I get an occasional sharp pain in my right foot. Best described as feeling like somebody’s rammed a nail through it
My recommended course of action is ignore and hope it goes away 🙂

Have you checked to see whether there’s a small stone or other object in your shoe ?

Not sure. Never was described as such, but not sure my arches are what they were.

Morton’s neuroma seems reasonable, but doesn’t explain why it disappears completely during the day.

The stone moves to the front of the shoe beyond the reach of the toe ?

I think if it is next to your big toe then it probably is your toe.

Early stages of gout? Change your diet a bit for a week or two and see how it is. Less booze and red meat, more veg and white meat/fish.

Gout would not go away if you go for a run on a twinge. It will get worse. I know.

If you can’t tell if it is you big toe or the one next to it, it might be….
