What the heck are these items embedded in the pavement? I don’t think they’re decorative, but I can’t decide their purpose….

they normally get used to mark the legal boundary of a property where part of the frontage is also paved.

    Offices, for example.

If there is a line of them, or they form a shape on the pavement it may be showing the edge between the “highway” (i.e. the area that the local authority is responsible for) and privately owned land. Very often stainless steel studs are used for the same purpose.

As above, they are boundary markers.

Have done work at a few places where they are used to mark a boundary inside which you can park etc, but outside is pavement or walkway owned by local authority.

Depends which way the arrow faces. Some are for men, some are for women. Can go licking an inappropriate sexually aligned chocolate ground dot can well…heaven forbid.

What I don’t understand is why they appear to be made of sponge.

    As above.

They are temporary fixed points used when surveying.

the surveying ones tend to be a lot smaller and more like a stud IME, I’d say those are boundary markers for things like external seating area for a café, seasonal stands(e.g. xmas stalls), temporary stands etc

Theyre charging points for mobile devices, place your mobile over the stud and leave for 5 minutes, youll find it recharged and missing when you return.

Nah not survey points, usually a small (5p ish) head on a coloured marker 40mm or so wide, yellow on my current site.

The pictures shown at the top of the page are not survey markers.

They would need markings to be useful for survey purposes.

They actually said, the chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one
But that’s me being a pedant, too much time on here.
Still good to know what the studs are. I thought I was the only Sado that had such thoughts.

I knew it wasn’t quite right, but the sentiment remains. Trip hazard?
