This has to be a wind up, no one is that thick.

perhaps it's their bike, it was stolen and they think that putting the pic up in an advert will stop the thieves trying to sell it through Gumtree?

I think it might be a wind up but you never know with some of these theives – they really are quite stupid sometimes!

Perhaps that chap is trying to be – whats the phrase – "Down with the kids"

I doubt its stolen, if some rapscallion had stolen it then I do not think they would be able to point out that it had an "old style rear end".

He might have taken it into some bikeshops to see if they might buy it from them and a bikeshop employee might have said 'ah thats the older-style rear-end one'.

Probably aware that it might turn up on Gumtree and a kind reader might spot it and notify him.

Could be some kind of Lost posting and the price is the reward? though it isn't all that clear?
