OK so my fault, left my rucksack with my laptop in it on the side of a Arizona highway, realised a few hours later and came back but it was gone. Police dept and Highway Dept haven’t seen anything.

Dell laptop, Windows 7, Office 2010 Professional.

I’ve changed my major passwords – Google, Facebook, PayPal, eBay, Dropbox.

What else can I do? There was nothing too sensitive on it and luckily most of the stuff was backed up. It doesn’t have any tracking or remote format software on it.

Can I cancel the Windows account or anything (to make it easier when I get a new laptop)?

    Thanks,

    Duane.

I presume it’s not a corporate laptop? Definitely contact the IT department if it is. They might be able to remotely wipe it.

    That’s not a stolen laptop; that’s a lost laptop.

If someone has found it and decided to keep it then (in the UK at least) it still counts as a form of theft.
