So my boots are going away till next season (or at least until I get bored and dig them out for Xscape).

Any tips on snowboard boot freshening/deodorising/biochemical-cleansing?

Can I wash them out with something?

Nutradol (think thays how you spell it) they do small packs that I use in my boots at the end of the season. Drop them in and cover the openings at the top and forget about them till the snow appears again.

There are other methods out there but most only mask the smell.

The liners are fairly posh. Leather(ette) bits, foam bits, papery bits.
I don’t think they’d take kindly to being soaked, and a gentle washdown just isn’t going to cut it 🙂

Bicarbonate of soda.

Sprinkle liberally, leave for a couple of minutes, shake out, no stink, guaranteed

Umm yes. But if the liners got soaking wet from the “cold, wet snow” then there would be something seriously wrong with the outers. Generally the liners don’t get wet at all, apart from minging foot sweat.

wash em, they are all machine washable, vans, burtons, 32, K2, northwave, salomons.

If they are waterpoof liners only hade wash them or in a machine at low temo and with no powder/liquid.

As with all waterproof equipment machine washing on detergent decreases how waterproof that item is.

I wash mine all the time, they will be fine

Someone told me he’d got good results with Febreze or similar “fabric deodorisers”

He said dry them thoroughly first, then febreze them until they surrender.

Not tried it on my skiboots yet, cos they were new last season and don’t honk that much yet, but it’s got to be worth a try

‘Gran’s Remedy’ foot powder works a treat in mine.

UPDATE: I doubt anyone cares, but I’m pleased to report that sq225917 was right – I slung them in the washing machine (40 degrees gentle wash, slow spin) and they were just fine.

They now only smell mildly of rotting corpses, which is a big improvement.

The boots themselves will be getting the bicarb/neutradol treatment just as soon as I get round to buying some.
