Ill happily admit I know nothing about steel, or metal in general, but wondered how long a steel bike frame should last?

How old is too old or does it come down to how much it has been ridden?

I’m asking as I was offered a frame for cheap but it’s a good ten years old. Would it be likely to break/snap?

That’s good then. Some new stickers and a head badge and I’m good to go.

I have a 531 Condor road bike which is in excess of 30 years old and it’s still going strong.

my peugeot road frame is stamped 1975, so probably made 1973-75. Still fine.

I’ve go a 19 year old Explosif that I deemed good enough to spend nearly £300 renovating (braze ons and paint) put it that way! 🙂

I had a steel Humber for a while, used it quite a bit – it was good as new. And it was 98 years old.

My 1996 clockwork is still taking abuse on a weekly basis – without any sign of distress – not done anything particular to presever it except some drain holes in the bottom bracket shell
