First time I’ve been and will definitely be going next year. What a great little event – would have taken more photos, but didn’t fancy having my camera out in the rain. Here’s some of 440 odd frames.
Oh and as a lager drinker, Peaty’s Trail Ale was rather nice.
And the pizza’s, yum!

chapaking – it’s slightly out of focus, if that matters – and who’d want Peaty’s ugly mug on their wall? 😉
Calamity James – that’s the beauty of this event – the terrain isn’t that challenging and all the features can be rolled, or ridden round – it’s competitive, but for fun. You’ll see allsorts riding it, blokes on hardtails, kids, slightly overweight 50+ dudes
I’ve registered on R&R, but doubt I’ve got much that folk would want to buy to be honest – went more for the day out than shooting. I’ve put the best ones on here – next time, I’ll probably spend more time further up the track, if it doesn’t rain
…don’t put yourself down. There are some great shots there; they convey the action and atmosphere of these sort of events and I think you’ll sell quite a few if you give it a go.
Did you use a Polarising filter for the colour shots?
You seem to have very stark contrast – which I like.
Great photos, thanks. I was watching from the other side of the bombhole from you for a bit. I saw Andrew Titley trying to get up that bank and he said “I made it down fine on my bike and I’m about to fall on my arse walking up” 😀 .
Did you wander up the course as well? Some other great photo ops – not least the jump with a sketchy landing right in front of a corner and a badly-placed tree that was wiping everyone out.
JAG – cheers. No, didn’t use a filter, just a bit of work on the sliders in LR.
finbar – we started at the top and wandered down, stopped for a pint at the gap jump, but it was raining a bit. My Sony A77ii is supposed to have weather sealing, but I’m still a bit precious about it. Will spend more time further up next year
It was a great day even if it rained a bit. Last year it snowed.
You must have been stood very near to us looking at the great pics you took.
We always trawl the photos on Roots n Rain for Abigale and end up buying a couple.
What I have noticed is that its very difficult to get any from the EWS rounds, there are loads of cameras but no photos seem to be up for sale. Might be an opening for a budding photographer somewhere. Will be keeping an eye out in Ireland at the weekend to see if it possible to buy direct.
A guy on Facebook asked me if he could save one from the Ride Sheffield page, so I’ve just told him I’ll email the high res version. Sometimes I’m just happy if people like my photos rather than asking for money for them
