I was discussing this the other day. People hate ROTJ because of the cutesey ewoks. But there’s nothing actually wrong with them apart from being cute. If they were people instead of dwarves in bear costumes it’d work.
That same situation has been played out many times in history. Primitive people providing decisive assistance in a war between two much bigger powers, siding with the invaders who are most closely aligned with their own interests. Like native Americans in various North American conflicts.
