Mrs Rusty runs/ran a boarding kennels with another woman (who no longer works there) While we went away for a short break, the Dog was left at the kennels and looked after by the other lady, who knew the dog and more importantly, the dog knew her and could be controlled by her and her alone.
There were explicit instructions that Baiden (the Rottwieller) should not be handled by anyone apart from the Co-manageress. Despite this, a keen work-experience girl took it upon herself to take him out for a walk, and it was then that she "lost control" of the situation and the incident took place, she's the only one that knows exactly what happened. At a guess she was playing silly buggers with a dog that weighed more than she did.
As much as I wish I could have been there to tell the girl what a bad Idea she was having, I think that we took EVERY precaution before we left that needed to be taken, we had to trust that...
A: The Co-manager would deal with the risk, and...
B: Make the risk known to anybody else who needed to know, and...
C: Make sure that even if some idiot wanted to do what they shouldn't, they can't.
Obviously, all three of these didn't happen and it was a very close call that our dog didn't pay the consequences. There have been plenty of very dangerous dogs that have been kept at the Kennels without incident as the (considerable) risks have been managed a whole lot better.
Our dog was a known risk, and should have been no problem, but 3 things happened that shouldn't have, I have a clear conscience, and like I say, no real harm was done, thank god!
And yes, our dogs are definitely dogs, we have a little person and she's very different.
