I’ve currently got some magic XC 717 which I converted to tubeless and they worked well.

I’ve now ordered some stans flow MK 3 rims.

Do I need to by anything else with these rims such as a tubeless kit or are they fully tubeless?

I’m thinking that all I need to buy is some gorilla tape and a tubeless valve?

I know, but I can’t find any info on these. Ta

I’d use yellow tape plus a valve but you don’t need anything else (bar fluid)

The autocorrect is strong in this one……………..

    You’ll need a valve.

I never found a need for yellow tape on MTB’s (road bike definitely), just go arround the rim with electrical tape, one layer each side then one down the middle to reinforce over the spoke holes.

    I don’t rate gorilla tape
    1) it’s expensive and no better really than 3M or duck tape
    2) it’s not really waterproof when soaked in sealent for months/years
    3) it’s porous, the one thing you don’t want in a rim tape
    4) it’s heavy (compared to electrical or yellow tape), especially once the sealant has soaked through it.

Gorilla tape is only really mentioned in connection with tubeless because it’s ammerican, and so are most bike forums, just that it’s started being marketed in this country.

Ok thanks, I did think that I did not need a full tubeless kit.

I’ll get a valve and some yellow tape then.

Oh, now I’ve realised that the yellow tape is in 3 different widths.

I think the flows are 29 Id so I presume the 27mm tape is probably best to buy.

You usually go wider then the ID for yellow tape, to make sure it goes right to the edge. So 30mm minimum id guess, their website will probably say.

Yes your right it is 30mm, now to find somewhere that sells it.

I found the 34mm WTB tape that CRC sell fitted my MK3 Flows perfectly – seems to be identical to Stan’s tape in all aspects except price.
