Had mine (X9) on for a while now and it seems like the clutch mechanism is a lot weaker than it was new. Does anyone know if it’s possible to tweak it to get the clutch stronger?

Mine too, exactly. Not as persistent as my shimano xt mech clutch or my x01. Lost a chain several times on the x9 with xx1 crank. Never on the x01 or xt+ .

I take it the SRAM mechs can’t be adjusted in the same way Shimanos can be?

Not that I’m aware of unfortunately.

I think they can be adjusted although they aren’t really designed to be. Involves pulling them apart (obviously) but I can’t find the link quickly. It is more the fact that the springs are so weak that annoys me rather than the clutch aspect.

about 9 months in and it still feels like it’s working fine, shifting like day 1 too.

Theres an article on stripping the sram type 2 mechs on the bicycling Australia website. Doesn’t look the easiest of tasks.
