I've got some 2008 Fox TALAS 32 RLC and they keep squeaking all the time as I go over little bumps. What should I do? Is it possible to service these sorts of things yourself. Does the oil need topping up or what? I used to be a roadie, you see, so forks are a bit of a black box to me.

From experience I wouldn't try and service TALAS forks yourself, the TALAS part can be a pig to setup correctly and ideally you need specialist tools. I've just had mine done by TFTuned, rather pricey but excellent service, high speed turnaround (3 days door to door) and a complete replacement of all seals etc.

I'm happy to service other forks myself but not the TALAS ones.

Hey Stumpyjon. When you say rather expensive, do you mean £89.00 plus return postage?

There's avery good step by step guide on the fox website for servicing the forks. The basic oil/wiper seals change is easy and the seals are about £15 from Mojo. The Talas chamber service is harder but does not need to be done at the same time.

Ooooh! That step-by-step guide looks good, but way too many steps, special tools and fiddly little bits for me. I think a pay-for service is the way to go.

Hmm – special tools – arnt needed to remove outers and do a seal check and wiper clean and just get some float fluid to relube the foams and still see if they are queaky. Mine a re a bit squeaky TBH esp when seal are really dry – try putting a little suspension fluid on the seal and pump them up and down?

Yep, £89 plus £20 postage, they arranged pick up as well as return, didn't fancy trusting my forks to Royal Fail.

Also had some reapir work done, assembly should've been £150 but as I only needed part of the assembly and they could reuse the rest for other repairs they only charged me £ 42, no additional labour either.

Yes you can do a simple wiper and oil service yourself but each time I've had mine service the TALAS system has needed cleaning out around the adjust lever. Some of the seals had swollen as well which was stopping them returning to full travel easily.
