  • Square Taper axle length…

What axle length would i need for a 2007 Orange 5 frame?

I want to fit Middleburn RS7 cranks but i’m relatively new to MTB and know nothing about square taper! The multitude of lengths is rather confusing.

    I intend running a 24/36/Bashquard set-up, if thats important?

I am running exactly this on mine…
73-113mm, anything shorter and the cranks wont go on, anything longer and you’ll have a hideous chainline.

most modern (non DH) mountain bike frames are designed around a 48mm chainline. Middleburn cranks produce a 48mm chainline with a 113mm BBaxle for both square taper and ISIS.

Using a double and bash shouldnt really make much difference, stick to a 48mm chainline. If you try to bugger around re-centering the chainset on the cassette by moving it outwards (with a longer BB axle) you will probably start having problems with the front mech.

113mm is right according to the middleburn website

Splash out and get a decent one….. I run a Royce Ti in both bikes and they are brill. You can give the cranks a firm tap (without a chain on) and they will spin 6-7 full revs.
