So it would seem 2 years has flown by of Puffin ownership.

My original build is largely untouched.

Now I know the saying “if it ain’t broke….” But I fancy sprucing her up 🙂

I’m torn. Lighten up the old girl, I think 30lb is doable, or add a pair of Bluto forks and and try and minimise the weight gain by selective upgrades?

To lighten I would start with the fork and go carbon, then brakes (currently BB7s), bar, grips etc.

Or add a Bluto and maybe a dropper post ….. I may be lucky with sub 35lb.

Money allowing I would go with a hybrid of the two and buy a Lauff, but I cannot see that happening!

Or do I just carry on as is – no one really likes that option do they? 😉

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

    what about some carbon wheels

I’ve not seen that bigger weight loss with carbon rims. Maybe just me looking in the wrong places.

I wouldn’t want to go any narrower than my Marge Lites though.

Tubeless carbon rims and decent tyres, loses both weight and reduced rolling resistance. No need to go wider than 65mm for normal UK conditions.

I saved over 2.5 kg’s on my Puffin by switching from on-one wheels to carbon/hope and fitting slightly lighter tyres.

Adding a set of Bluto’s has been the best thing that I did on my Puffin. Almost certainly a reflection of my skill level but I’m a lot more confident riding it now.

Marge Lites are a pretty light rim so gm/£ benefit from Carbon rims isnt going to be massive. They also wiegh the same as BR710s so not much lighter in Alu available. Id start with Carbon forks if not already and then tyres (eg Jumbo Jims?). And then look at everything else on the bike.
How often will you use Blutos to justify?

I’d just use a set of clippers for a tidy up. Veet is best avoided.

    Thanks all.

Currently running Husker Du’s as its dry but revert to a Bud/Nate for winter.

    Hmm.

So carbon forks or Bluto then …….
