Lots of choice, £5-£35 on CRC… which one to get?

I'm looking to start building my own wheels (starting with a 'simple' rim swap around) so happy to invest in one that'll last; what does the STW massive recommend (and indeed use yourself?) 🙂

    Park Masters. Wingnut-tastic

Then, in the Camelback a Spokey or a standard Park for trailside tweaks.

    Spokey

    or Park

Don't bother with anything else. Waste of money or utter rubbish.

Worth going to you LBS to get the riget size, but in both cases I've found it's the red one you'll need!
    😀

I find Spokeys slightly easier to use and they last forever. Mine must be 15 years old at least.

Spokey – no question ace little tool – pro version has deeper jaws useful for alloy nipples

I use a Pedro's one, highly recommended. Grips all four faces to reduce the chances of rounding

Not the Park one, it hurts your fingers.

Spokey's much better and very cheap to replace when it breaks!

i would go for a plastic coated one like the Spokey or park.

avoid something like the park tools all steel one as from experience they mark your spokes if your not very careful.

that 4 pack of Pedros one's looks nice, though the Spokey at £5 seems very good especially considering all the recommendations above (though CRC don't stock it?)

Breaks! never broken one… even driven over one!

they are great tools and grip on four sides..

CRC do stock, though sems out of red std ones

    pro one:

    std:

both good and the groove keeps it align to the spoke when you are using it and the flat design lets you tweak easily by eye 1/8 1/4 1/2 full turns etc

    red for most nipples

Those Pedros ones are £5 each (£2 for the mavic one) on CRC (or £23 for 4?). You just have look a bit harder to find it ..

@ rootes1 – the metal insert eventually fell out of the plastic body on my red spokey. Had built 7 or 8 wheels with it and trued many more. £4 from lbs for 3 years or so is still superb value 😉
