  • Spoke tension – how do I know when they're tight enough???

Just built my first wheels (Open Pros on Cotic hubs, DT comp spokes). They’re laterally and radially true, and I’m at the final tensioning stage. How do I know when to stop? They sound tight ( high-ish pitch), but what happens if I over tension them?

    try grabbing “pairs” of spokes

grab parallel pairs (sets of spokes that are parallel to each other)…they should feel tight when pinched with your fingers

we use a Park spoke tension meter in our workshops to sometimes check if we are not sure, but you get a good feel with your fingers with some practise
