I was thinking of trying to fix my old wheel which I dinged pretty badly and bust a spoke on. Was going to put it on my gf's bike so she can have a disc brake – she is pretty light and doesn't do anything too extreme so it might well be ok if I can manage to fix it.

Is there anywhere that sells single spokes and nipples? Don't really want to have to buy a whole set.

Does it matter if they don't match the ones already on the wheel?

    Ta.

Just pop down to your LBS and they should be able to sort you out.

Aye I was thinking that, although they told me that the wheel was beyond repair. 🙂

Well if the rim is bent then it usually is. Sure, you might be able to straighten a bent rim but it will be a weak spot and you'll have uneven spoke tensions in the area of the bend.

Yeah was gonna try and straighten it. My gf is pretty light and non-'core though so I think it's worth a go if I can get a single spoke and nipple anywhere.

Doesn't really matter if you put an odd spoke in.
Though, as said above if the rim is bent…….
and you LBS says it's beyond repair….
and your gonna put it on the gfs bike….

    What's happening grumm, really?

It's on the rear wheel that came with my Pitch – all it says is this.

1.8mm (15g) stainless, black, alloy nipples

The ding doesn't look too bad to my untrained eye, I'm sure I have seen threads with worse dings that people said could be bent back. I only replaced it cos I am 16 stone and ride hard/clumsy.

LBS are known for being over-cautious about such things. Why, is it really that risky? Are you suggesting I'm trying to kill her?

Hehe – OK thanks. Stupid question but how do I find out spoke length, take one out and measure it?
