Okay, we can all spot spider webs, a marvel of the animal kingdom. However, a discussion has arisen. Are cobwebs just old spider webs which have attracted dust or are cobwebs an accumulation of dust with no spider influence but just called webs due to a visual similarity?

    Sorry,

But yeah, I always thought that cobwebs were just dusty auld spider webs that may’ve collapsed a bit. The spider may still hang out there, or not… dunno.

The general consensus according to wider interweb wisdom is that they are one and the same … the ‘cob’ reference is ye auld English for spider.
