  • Specialized grid casing – does it prevent pinches?

Specialized seem to have ditched their SX casing from the tyre lineup. Shame as I thought it was a nice intermediate between single and dual ply, if a little draggy.

I note however that their grid casing is supposed to increase sidewall stiffness as well as cut resistance.

Can anyone reports on whether it’s as pinch flat proof as the old SX? Or indeed any more pinch proof than the Control casing?

Dunno if it’s more pinch proof, as I only ever ran them tubeless, but it was significantly better against lakes/highland rocky descents than the control.

The 2015 grid casing is much tougher than the 2014 also heavier.

I find it has held up very well in the Lakes and I’ve not burped or torn it in the 6 months I’ve ran them. They seem tougher than Exo Maxxis tyres but not as tough as dual ply.

I’ve not tried them but the Butcher and Slaughter now have a tougher grid casing than the purgatory or ground control grids.
