I have had issues with my carbon forks on my specialised fat boy comp. had two sets of forks fail in 9 months, apparently down to overtightening, not by me!! Specialised are saying they have no rigid forks in stock at present but have offered me the Bluto suspension fork instead. I have said no, mainly because I don’t think I need them, anybody riding a fattie with suspension? Is it worth it or stay rigid? I usually ride on Dartmoor for bivvys but it’s a go anywhere bike.

If its a free upgrade and you like going over bumpy bits – why not ?

I’ve ride fatties with both rigid and suspension – sometimes suspension is even useful on frozen snow. 😉

    Snatch their hands off.

If I could find a reasonably priced Bluto I’d have one on my Fatboy in a trice.

There was a Fatboy carbon fork on eBay, some optimist wanted £250 for it. A Bluto is at least £400 so how can you lose?

You can try it and if you don’t like it go back. I assume your FB is a 2017 model with the 150mm wheel already?

I’d take the Bluto. I really like the carbon fork set up on my Fatboy but would happily have it swapped out for free. Assume they’ll do all the workshop stuff too for free.

I swapped the carbon fork for blutos on my fatboy and really like them, best upgrade imo. Sure their a bit heavier but the difference on technical trails is fantastic and can easily keep up with mates on full sus bikes. They can be locked out as well so you’ve got the option to keep them rigid but I hardly ever bother. I had to get a new front hub as the blutos 150x15mm axle versus 135mm qr on the carbon fork but Specialized should sort you out if their offering the fork.

I’d take the bluto too and this is coming from someone who is really into a rigid steel fatbike!

Worse case is you don’t like them. If so, sell them on and get some carbon forks.

    Take the Bluto.

I have two fat bikes, one is an e fat bike, the motor other is a Sonder Vir Fortis carbon fat bike.

I have a collection and selection of forks to fit both bikes.
At present they are both fitted with 100mm Bluto.

I have a Wren fork (suspension), and a Lauf Carbonara fork, which offers about 60mm of travel without any rebound control.

The Bluto is a good fork.

Cheers for responses. As it’s a free upgrade and positive responses I will take the Blutos. Getting withdrawal symptoms from not riding it.

Take the bluto but get the lockout on the fork itself. The lockout on the handlebar is mor expensive but completely crap. If it gets within 1m of sand it breaks. Love my bluto’s detest the non existent lockout cos the remote is absolutely crap(and has been for years according to the techni

Take the Bluto free upgrade and if you really don’t like them, flog them and replace with a suitable rigid fork from the likes of http://www.carboncycles.cc/?s=0&t=0&rb=15& , with some change to buy a new fat tyre etc.
