    Must be:

    Durable
    Cost effective
    Good grip(s) underneath
    Wide spacing around the cleats

Not Specialized – after 7yrs I want to try something new.

Not cheap though. Bikeradar class them as ‘budget’. At £100?!

Depends on what you’re after…If you need a stiff sole and pedalling efficiency then you’re better served elsewhere but my Shimano MP66 shoes are durable, comfortable and have a nicely tacky sole.

You will of course look just like every other portly, thirty something who works in IT on the trail though.

If Specialized shoes fitted me I would be after the Rime shoe because of the Vibram sole… nae cheap mind 🙄

Take a look at the offerings from lake, I am a convert to the make, having used specialized and sidi shoes in the past (apart from the mx100 they are a bit heavy and flexy).

If you like the wide toe box of spesh shoes, take a look at Bontrager – they have similarly roomy (if not a little more so) toe boxes

I got a pair of Mavic Alpine XL’s worn once in the classifieds for £40. They seem pretty comfy so far!

How do Sidis shape up for width? Are Spesh & Bontrager the widest fit out there?

Lake are wider in the toe box than specialised, sidi tend to be a bit pointy toed.

    Shimano AM45’s

I think I’ll go this way as I’m a longterm fan of DX spd pedals and as such I really don’t need a rigid/stiff sole etc..
