……. for a hardcore hardtail. Looking for 2.4″ or thereabouts and dual/triple compound. What’s good out there?
Irrelevant I guess but current rear is spesh purgatory.

On one Chunky Monkey 2.4, huge volume, great grip and silly cheap. I don’t look anywhere else now. (internet legend has it they’re made by maxxis)

I’m impressed with the Chunky Monkey.

I also have a brand new, never fitted one in the shed that I need to move on (no 26″ bikes for me now).

    Email me if interested.

Just gone to a DHRII 3C Exo 2.4 on the front and it’s ridiculously good! Rolls better than the HRII it replaced and grips fantastically well.

    ChunkyMonkey front only for me.
Smorg or HR2 on the rear at the mo but preferring the HR2

I have a Butcher Grid 2.3 that’s done 500m to the bike shop I need to sell if you fancy something grippy but not giant (found out after her frame was cracked). Also a Purgatory Grid but that’s not so good on the front.

I’ll take the Butcher Jim if the op doesn’t want it.

I’ve been using HD’s on my slackline for a year or so now, the rear is looking very battered now, but i’ve liked the grip in all sorts of terain.
I’ve a fairly new smorgy that i’ll put back on the rear and i’m tempted by a Chunky monkey for the front
Have ridden Rubber Queens (now called Trail King) a couple of times in the past and liked them in all but slop

Best VFM – On ones and they last well to boot

Another chunky monkey fan here (run tubeless on the front of the HT).

BUT, the smorg’ was absolutely useless on the back of the hardtail. Nowhere near tough enough to take the battering that it’s going to get on a hardtail.
My smorg’ experience lasted about an hour into the first ride before pinchflatting through the carcass way beyond the magical capabilities of the stans fluid. I wouldn’t contemplate anything less than a dual ply Maxxis on the rear of my hardcore hardtail.

As already said, CM is unbeatable at the price.

I have a partially used one I can send you for a tenner?

Another vote for this. They come up big/ “true to size”, and excellent all rounders.

Unusual suggestion, I’ve got an Onza Ibex DH 2.4 on the front, it’s been great for lakes riding, looks big and confidence inspiring.

Another happy CM owner here, used to have it on a Ragley Blue Pig, same tyre is now on my Banshee Spitfire. Go for the trail extreme version for the front.

Supple, grippy, OK rolling, fast charging.
Like a grippy Ardent and doesn’t surf the mud so much.

I’ve got On-One Smorgasboard front & rear, TrailExtreme version is dual compound. 2.25″ only but plenty wide enough for me on the front. Also 15 quid.
