Can't believe I'm doing a 'wot tire' thread but here goes
Looking for some 700c tyres & can't make out what I should be looking for - it's worse than MTB tyres
General road biking, no racing just sportives & longish days out
something that doesn't break the bank, doesn't weigh a ton & won't fall to bits
yeah, I know - strong, light, cheap etc
Currently have Bonty Racelite on but they need changing
Did you like the Bonty Racelites? If so, why not just buy another pair?

I may do but - for no good reason I can think of - I always thought them a bit flimsy
TBH - I can't really figure out if they need changing, they've done about 3000 miles so I guessed they must be ready to be changed
conti gp 4 seasons, or ultra gatorskins. 25mm.
Conti Gatorskins here. Decent miles and not too heavy in folding form.
run 23mm michelin krylion carbon tyres on my bike. Commuting, training, sportives, they tick all the boxes and about £20 each.
Been quite puncture resistant for me and roll very fast.
Are they worth a punt, i would say so. Also, quite a good looking tyre
My favorite all-rounders are Vredestein fortezza tricomps- almost as fast as Michelin Pro race, almost as supple as Vittorias Corsa CXs , more durable than either. Some folk complain about their wet weather grip, but once they've got their initial scrub they're a lot better than some I could mention.
same, conti gatorskins - light and reasonably fast but well able to withstand commuting too
I run Continental Ultra Race on mine, very good tyres and cope well with $hitty conditions, nice and quick without forgoing puncture resistance (although having said the "P" word I'll now get 11 on my next ride)
Conti 4 seasons for me.
conti gp 4000s do it for me, when conditions are bad i use conti ultra sport
Conti ultra Gatorskins here. The front one has done 5000 odd miles while the rear was changed at around the 400 mile mark. I use mine for commuting as well and they are coping very well with the short offroad section i have to use.
conti gp4000's for me. Over 4000 miles as a rear tyre for one with *not one puncture in all that time*, front tyre has been going longer than that.

No real reason, just cant go too far wrong with their stuff IMO. Just pick the point at which your budget and grip expectation meet. I commuted for 3 months on gp4000's, 1 puncture, wear was reasonable, reckon you could get around 8000miles from a rear tire.
Now use
gp4000 23mm - proper roadie bike
ultra race 23mm - fixie project
gp4season 28mm - commuter
4000s and 4-seasons give much better ride and grip than gatorskins.
worth paying the extra imho

bonti race lites are good also
Conti 4000 here for sportives, had some bad experience with sidewalls on Conti 3000 but experience on 4000s is great. I like Michelin krylion too, used more in the winter though.

Michy Pro Race 3... can even get it in a colour you like.
By far my fav tyre and has lasted 3000miles so far, and its taken some really poor weather (and riding!!!)
Otherwise Panaracer Evo3 or Schwable somethings...
