Anybody any experience of lighting their shed/workshop with 12v lights powered by a leisure battery charged from solar panels on the roof?

Is it worth doing or should I just run a cable from the house and use mains electricity?

I've got one that I bought from maplin. It provides a tiny trickle of light. You would need several to make it bright enough to work in at night. I think you're better off with a decent mains powered light. Having power in the shed is always handy anyway.

cost is probably greater via solar but you can get some mini shed powered solar lights that are ok depending on size of your shed.
Wont be as bright as 240 v or will be high draining.
Remember you use light more in winter when you have less sun

You need to have power in your shed. It is a man thing.

My dad constructed a windmill attatched to an alternator which charges 4 car batteries. Provides enough power to run lights and even a telly!! (albeit a small black and white one)
